1. we need to invest big time in weather sciences/ 25-30 per cent reduction was done in last yr annual budget...

2. prices are artificially "fixed"; and when shortages grow, government rushes to buy from heavily subsidised global farms. This cannot go on...

3....everything from cities and roads to ports and dams - must be built in a way that they are compliant with best environmental safeguards.

4.....our so-called crop insurance schemes are poorly designed and even more poorly executed. Once again, this cannot go on.

MSSRF-UNDP-MoRD's Consultative Workshop on

MGNREGA for Panchayat Presidents of Nagapattinam

district was very successful. Myself, MSSRF-Project

Coordinator and an Asst. Engineer conducted the day long

sessions. 35 village representatives participated. The

workshop was very participative and analytical. There was

lot of sharing and idea generations. Discussions were

threadbare. Presidents asked for similar sessions in every

Union office. They have also asked for Awareness camp for

MGNREGA workers about their duties as MGNREGA

workers. They felt they have gained lot from this workshop.

They also appreciated the simple book I had prepared.

MSSRF staff took lot of pain in organizing the workshop,

despite lot of hurdles including the Bandh in Karaikal.
